Jake Tapper Condemns Texas Governor's 'Losers' Comment on Flood Deaths

CNN's Jake Tapper delivered a strong criticism of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's claim that inquiries into whose fault the fatal flooding in Texas was belong to the "lingo of those who lose"

At a press briefing on Tuesday, Abbott responded to a journalist's query regarding whose responsibility it is for the flooding that has resulted in more than 100 fatalities in Kerr County. "language of losers." Abbott continued by explaining that a champion soccer team never questions whose fault it is, although he mentioned, "Every soccer team commits errors."

Those remarks were not received favorably by Tapper, who provided a reply during his program "The Lead with Jake Tapper."

Tapper started with a video segment featuring Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who stated on Tuesday that enhanced flood alert systems might have prevented deaths.

USA Today reported On Tuesday, Kerr County authorities sought a $1 million grant to enhance their emergency response system, yet the request was turned down by the state emergency readiness organization.

"Although there were reasonable and rational inquiries regarding this disaster and who might be at fault...the Texas governor, just moments earlier, stated that questioning who is responsible is 'the speech of losers,' " Tapper said.

"Questioning officials within the Texas government regarding warnings that went unheeded and guidance from specialists that was ignored, we believe this isn’t the speech of those who have failed," Tapper added.

Concerns regarding Texas's emergency response mechanisms have been rising since the floods started at the end of the week. Both state and federal authorities have described the flooding as record-breaking, yet they have avoided addressing issues related to responsibility.

"It is our responsibility, everyone's, following such a terrible disaster," Tapper stated.
