Tottenham's Postecoglou Close to Clash with Son Heung-Min Over Brentford Revelation

It emerged that Brentford, having lost their manager to Tottenham, reached out to Enzo Postecoglou, who had been succeeded by Tottenham.

According to England's The Athletic, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was approached on the 9th (in Korean time) following Brentwood's decision to replace Thomas Frank. Interestingly, this scenario involved an unexpected development between the two teams, as Brentford had been looking at Postecoglou as a potential successor for Frank, who moved to Tottenham under a three-year deal. Meanwhile, Tottenham had previously dismissed the 59-year-old Postecoglou, according to reports.

After the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, Brentford faces numerous adjustments caused by outside factors. Coach Frank, who established Brentford—previously wandering through the lower divisions—as a mid-table team in the Premier League (EPL), is set to move to Tottenham. Several promising coaches who previously collaborated with Frank have also joined Tottenham.

Brentford quickly started searching for their new manager following Frank's departure to Tottenham. Interestingly, they initially targeted Postecoglou, who had just been let go by Tottenham. Although Postecoglou was later succeeded by another coach at Tottenham, he failed to make an impact in the Premier League.

Even though he brought in a top-tier player called Harry Kane during his inaugural season at Tottenham, he built a strong squad around Son Heung-min and secured a fifth-place finish in the league. His team struggled the most in the league last year, yet they still managed to win the Europa League (UEL), bringing silverware back to Spurs. Despite being let go because of their poor league form, Postecoglou’s assessment isn’t entirely negative.

Nevertheless, negotiations between Brentford and Postecoglou have not moved forward. According to The Athletic, although Brentford’s sporting director Phil Giles engaged in casual conversations with Postecoglou, both parties did not reach an agreement that transferring him would be the optimal choice, resulting in no official meeting being arranged. Additional prospects under consideration by Brentford included Francesco Parisoli, the ex-Ajax boss now managing Porto. Ultimately, Brentford opted to appoint Keith Andrews, a corner-kick specialist, from within the club.

Postecoglou was let go by Tottenham, yet he continues to attract numerous opportunities, suggesting he can resume his career at any time. An English Premier League team remains interested in Postecoglou and is closely observing him during his tenure with Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia. In recent developments, LAFC from Major League Soccer in the United States has also been connected with coach Postecoglou.

Should Postecoglou take up the position of manager at Tottenham in the Premier League, a fresh chapter involving Son Heung-min will unfold.
