John Obi Mikel: Predicts Nicolas Jackson's Future

John Obi Mikel believes Nicolas Jackson is currently the third option for a forward position at Chelsea - yet thinks he can still make an important contribution to the team.

Having been Chelsea's sole natural choice upfront for two seasons, Jackson now faces significant competition from new summer arrivals. Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

Delap, who joined for £30 million from Ipswich Town, has left a strong first impression at FIFA. Club World Cup , netting his initial goal for the team versus ES Tunis.

The English U21 player was banned from participating in Tuesday's semifinal match against Fluminense, allowing Pedro to make his debut for the Blues.

After joining from Brighton for £60 million last week, the Brazilian star netted two remarkable goals against the team where he began his professional career, securing a 2-0 victory for Enzo Maresca's team.

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Mikel has long advocated for greater rivalry in attack and thinks his former team now possesses this with choices like Jackson, Delap, and Pedro.

Although he thinks the Senegalese player will probably begin the upcoming Premier League campaign as Enzo Maresca's third-choice forward, he feels the player still has a role to play at the club.

"It’s crucial that there's rivalry within the team; it's particularly significant when playing for a major club and striving for titles, which is exactly what we currently possess," Mikel said to DAZN.

'Three strong forwards vying for a single spot. The rivalry between Delap and Joao will motivate the players to put in even more effort.'

'However, I still believe Jackson has a significant role to fulfill; he simply needs to address his own issues regarding discipline and his aspirations for this place.'

'However, I believe that based on his performance today, João and Delap might be ahead of him at this moment.'

Chelsea is set to play either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final this Sunday.
