Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois Poised for Landmark Long-Term Contract Renewal

Thibaut Courtois could be heading toward a full decade at Real Madrid. According to AS , the club is preparing to extend the Belgian goalkeeper’s contract until 2028, adding two more years to his current deal.

Courtois, who is 32 years old, continues to be a key player for the Madrid team even though there was some discussion about his position at the start of the season. Although the club expressed an interest in Espanyol’s Joan García, they eventually demonstrated their faith in Courtois by maintaining him as their clear-cut starting goalkeeper.

An uncommon extended run for an experienced player

Bound to the team until 2026, Thibaut Courtois is set to receive an additional contract extension of three years—a uncommon decision for a player above 30, since Real Madrid usually refrains from offering lengthy agreements at such ages. Nonetheless, his exceptional performances and leadership have left a significant impression on the club’s management.

Should they agree, this new contract will secure Courtois' position at the Bernabeu stadium until he turns 36 years old. Having played 282 games with two UEFA Champions League victories and three La Liga championships under his belt, he has solidified his status as a legend—and now he has an opportunity to further enhance his remarkable record.
