Mikel Obi's Message to Nicolas Jackson: Addressing Chelsea's Osimhen Snub
- Mikel Obi has, once again, emphasised that he did not mean to disrespect Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson
- The club legend had been critical of the Ivorian forward, saying there are aspects the striker needed to work on
- After bringing in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, Mikel expressed his hope for a strong partnership between him and Jackson.
John Obi Mikel has clarified his recent comments about Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, emphasising that he intended no disrespect and was instead encouraging the young forward to reach his full potential.
Chelsea is gearing up for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where they have been placed in Group D along with Flamengo, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Los Angeles FC.
Mikel also expressed his thoughts on the club's decision to sign Liam Delap rather than their longtime target, the Nigerian international Victor Osimhen.

As a DAZN commentator, the ex-Stoke City player from England stated, according to Tribuna:
I didn’t intend to show any disrespect towards Nicolas. He possesses great potential—it’s clear that he has the makings of a good player.
"He’s quick, good on the ball, and creates space for players like Cole Palmer by stretching defences.
Last season, Jackson scored 13 goals and provided 5 assists across 34 games, showing promising performance with potential for further improvement.
Mikel thinks that acquiring Delap for £30 million (€36 million) from Ipswich Town might inspire Jackson.
He added:
Delap’s appearance could trigger a favorable response from him. It appears the team is heading in a fresh direction.

Mikel speaks on Osimhen
Although he thinks Osimhen could have made an instant difference at Stamford Bridge, Mikel still holds hope for the newly signed player Delap.
I'd really enjoy seeing Jackson and Delap develop a solid partnership, challenging one another both during practice sessions and out on the field.
Mikel sends an SMS to Osimhen.
In the meantime, Super Eagles leader John Obi Mikel has advised Victor Osimhen against moving to Saudi Arabia, encouraging him instead to remain with leading European teams where he can continue making a substantial difference.
As reports connect the 26-year-old to Al-Hilal, the Chelsea legend cautions that transferring at this stage of Osimhen’s career might impede his growth.
I currently prefer not to have him in Saudi Arabia since he still has plenty more to contribute in Europe. It would be unfortunate for him to move there at this point.
He also pointed out Arsenal and Manchester United as more plausible options.
Major departure threatens Chelsea
.ng Previously mentioned was the news that London team Chelsea is preparing for significant changes to their roster this summer, with up to 14 players possibly departing from the club.
The team from Stamford Bridge managed to secure a spot in the top four and qualify for the Champions League, along with clinching the Conference League trophy. However, manager Enzo Maresca plans to revamp the roster by bringing in new talents.
The Blues aim to reduce their roster size and are considering letting go of multiple players. Among them is winger Noni Madueke, who netted 11 goals in the previous season. The team is apparently open to offers for him as they seek additional offensive talent.
